True flatwounds are quiet but sound noticeably warmer and darker. Silencers take a middle path: the playing surface is smoother, but the tonal trade-off is much smaller.
That makes Silencers a favorite for recording, where finger noise on a close-miked guitar is a real problem. They also suit anyone who prefers a faster, smoother feel under the hand.
Semi-Flat Silencers electric sets:
- .009–.042 (SL942 Extra Light), for easier bends on lead work
- .009–.046 (SL946 Rock N Roll), a light top with more weight underneath
- .010–.046 (SL1046 Light), the standard and most versatile
- .011–.050 (SL1150 Medium Light), for heavier rhythm playing and lower tunings
- .010–.042 (SL404RIC), a 12-string set gauged for vintage-style electric 12-strings
We also use Silencer semi-flat winding in our 80/20 acoustic, resonator, bass and Scotty's lap steel sets.
