Material, gauge, construction, and string life all change how a set sounds and feels. Here's what each one actually means — no matter what you play.

  1. Material

    What Are Strings Made Of?

    String material varies by instrument and shapes your tone. Electric strings use nickel-plated steel, stainless steel, or pure nickel. Acoustic strings use phosphor bronze, 80/20 bronze, or Monel. Classical strings use nylon, often paired with silver-plated copper winding.

  2. Gauge

    Choosing The Right Gauge

    Lighter gauges generally feel easier to fret and bend, while heavier gauges provide more tension and can help maintain feel and stability — especially in lower tunings. The best gauge depends on your instrument, tuning, playing style, and preferred feel.

  3. Construction

    Roundwound, Semi-Flat Or Flatwound?

    Roundwound strings provide the familiar attack, brightness, and sustain used across most styles. Semi-flat and flatwound designs create a smoother playing surface with reduced finger noise and a warmer response.

  4. String Life

    Coated Vs. Uncoated

    Coated strings add protection against moisture, oils, and corrosion to help extend usable string life. Uncoated strings offer a traditional feel and response, so the choice comes down to what you prioritize.
