About Semi-Flat Silencers 80/20
Silencer Semi-Flat is our 80/20 bronze set with the string noise taken out. The outer wrap is polished so the ridges a fingertip catches on are flattened, which cuts finger squeak and slide noise without flattening the string into a true flatwound. You keep the bright, articulate 80/20 voice and lose the chirp between chords.
That matters most in front of a microphone. Squeak is the single hardest thing to edit out of an acoustic take, and a semi-flat set removes it at the source. Players with a heavy hand or a fast position shift notice it live as well, and the smoother surface is simply easier on the fingers over a long set.
Choosing a gauge
.012–.052 (GL1252 Light) is the all-round starting point and works across fingerstyle and strumming. .010–.048 (GL1048 Extra Light) is the lightest and easiest, with .011–.050 (GL1150 Pro Light) between the two. .013–.056 (GL1356 Medium) adds tension and volume for heavier playing. These are the same gauges as our Golden Bronze 80/20 line, so you can switch without changing your setup.

How Semi-Flat Silencers compares to our other acoustic sets
Semi-Flat Silencers is the quiet option. Golden Bronze 80/20 is the same wrap and the same gauges without the polishing. Phosphor Bronze is warmer, Royal Bronze fuller, and American Roots Monel drier and more vintage. CRT Coated Phosphor Bronze takes the long-life route instead. We also make a Silencer 80/20 set for resonator guitars.
Made in the USA.
