What are Semi-Flat Silencers 80/20 acoustic strings?

Silencer Semi-Flat is our 80/20 bronze acoustic set with the outer wrap polished smooth. It cuts finger squeak and slide noise without turning into a true flatwound, so you keep the bright, articulate 80/20 voice.

Squeak is one of the hardest things to edit out of an acoustic recording, and a semi-flat set reduces it at the source. Players with a heavy hand or fast position shifts notice the difference live too. The smoother surface is also easier on the fingers over a long set.

Silencer Semi-Flat 80/20 gauges:

  • .010–.048 (GL1048 Extra Light), the lightest and easiest
  • .011–.050 (GL1150 Pro Light)
  • .012–.052 (GL1252 Light), the all-round starting point for fingerstyle and strumming
  • .013–.056 (GL1356 Medium), for a firmer feel and more volume

These are the same gauges as our Golden Bronze 80/20 line, so you can switch between them without changing your setup. We also make a Silencer 80/20 set for resonator guitars (DBRGL1756).
