About Foundations Nickel

Foundations Nickel is brighter and more flexible than our Power Wound Nickel sets. The strings bend further with less effort and sit easier under the fretting hand, and the top end is crisper — a livelier version of the same nickel voice, with clear highs, strong mids and punchy lows.

You can spot a set in the pack: Foundations ball ends are red. If you have a bass strung with something you can't identify, that is the tell.

It is the set for players with a lighter touch, anyone whose hands tire over a three-hour gig, and bassists coming from guitar who find a standard set stiff under the fingers. Players who dig in hard and want the string to push back should stay on Power Wound.

Choosing a gauge

.045–.105 is the standard four-string set and where most players land. .040–.100 is lighter and easier still. Five-string players choose between .040–.120 and .045–.125, and six-string players between .030–.120 and .030–.125. The five and six-string sets are also made in extra long scale for basses with a 35" or longer scale.

Foundations Stainless is this same string with a stainless wrap. Fusion Wound Nickel is the tightest and most focused, Silencer Nickel Semi-Flat the quietest, and Power Flat flatwounds go furthest toward a smooth, mellow response.
