About Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Bass
These are acoustic bass guitar strings, not electric bass strings. An acoustic bass has no pickup driving an amp, so the string has to move the top of the instrument on its own. A 92/8 phosphor bronze wrap does that better than nickel or steel: it is louder unamplified, warmer through the mids, and it keeps the low end from disappearing into the body of the guitar.
If you put electric bass strings on an acoustic bass it will sound quiet and dull. This is the set that fixes it.
Choosing a set
Both sets are standard long scale. .045–.105 is the four-string and .045–.125 the five-string, which adds a low B. Acoustic basses are not loud instruments by nature, so we do not make a lighter set — these gauges are what it takes to drive the top.
Gauges
| Set | Gauges |
|---|---|
| .045–.105 Medium Light 4-string | .045 .065 .085 .105 |
| .045–.125 Light 5-string | .045 .065 .085 .105 .125 |
How these compare to our other bass sets
These are the only sets we make for acoustic bass guitar. Everything else in our bass range — Power Wound Nickel, Power Steel Stainless, Fusion Wound, Silencer Semi-Flat and Power Flat — is built for electric bass and will not project properly on an acoustic. If you also play a flat-top acoustic guitar, our Phosphor Bronze guitar sets use the same family of wrap wire.
Made in the USA.
