About CRT Coated Nickel

CRT Coated is Power Wound Nickel with Corrosion Resistant Technology. The coating protects the string from sweat, moisture and buildup, so a set holds its tone and feel for longer. Nothing else changes: the same nickel-plated steel wrap, the same clear highs and solid low end.

It earns its place if you play often, sweat a lot, live somewhere humid, or simply resent changing strings. Uncoated sets still feel fractionally more open to some players, which is why we make both.

Choosing a gauge

In standard tuning, .010–.046 (CS1046 Light) is the balanced starting point and .009–.042 (CS942 Extra Light) is the easier bend. Between the two, .0095–.044 (CS9544 Rock Light) splits the difference. For a light top with a fuller bottom, .009–.046 (CS946 Rock N Roll) works, and .011–.050 (CS1150 Medium Light) adds tension across the set for heavier picking or lower tunings.

How CRT Coated compares to our other electric sets

CRT Coated is the long-life option. Power Wound Nickel is the same string uncoated. Power Steel Stainless is brighter and more aggressive, Power Groove Pure Nickel warmer and more vintage. Semi-Flat Silencers cut finger noise, and Power Flat flatwounds go furthest toward a smooth, mellow response.
