About Power Flat Flat Wound
Power Flat is a true flatwound. A stainless steel ribbon is wrapped over a high carbon steel hex core and polished flat, so the surface under your fingers is completely smooth. Finger noise disappears, and the tone shifts to a warm, focused fundamental with controlled sustain and very little of the brightness a roundwound gives you.
That is exactly what you want for jazz, soul, R&B and vintage-voiced playing, and exactly what you do not want if you are after modern brightness and bite.
Choosing a gauge
.011–.050 (F1150 Light) is the comfortable option, with a balanced feel across the set. .012–.052 (F1252 Medium) adds firmness and depth for players who dig in or want more weight under the fingers. Flatwound sets generally run heavier than roundwound sets, so if you normally play .010s a .011 flatwound will feel familiar rather than stiff.

How Power Flat compares to our other electric sets
Power Flat is the smoothest and warmest set we make for electric. Semi-Flat Silencers sit between flat and round, keeping more brightness while still cutting finger noise. Power Wound Nickel is the standard roundwound, Power Steel Stainless is brighter and more aggressive, Power Groove Pure Nickel warmer than Power Wound, and CRT Coated Nickel adds corrosion resistance for longer life.
Frequently asked questions
What are flatwound guitar strings?
Flatwound guitar strings use a flat ribbon wire for the outer wrap instead of round wire. Power Flat uses stainless steel ribbon over a high carbon steel hex core, polished flat, so the strings feel completely smooth and finger squeak disappears.
Flatwound vs roundwound guitar strings: what is the difference?
Roundwounds are brighter, with more sustain and bite. Flatwounds are smooth and quiet, with a warm, focused tone and controlled sustain. Flatwounds are the classic choice for jazz, soul, R&B and vintage tones. For something in between, try our Semi-Flat Silencers.
What gauge flatwound guitar strings should I use?
Flatwound sets usually run heavier than roundwounds and feel a little stiffer, so if you normally play .010s, a .011 flatwound set (F1150 Light) will feel familiar. Choose .012–.052 (F1252 Medium) for more weight and depth.
Is the third string wound on Power Flat sets?
Yes. Both sets have a wound third string: .022 on F1150 Light and .024 on F1252 Medium.
Made in the USA.
