About Semi-Flat Silencers Bass
Silencer Semi-Flat is our nickel bass string with the string noise taken out. The outer wrap is polished so the ridges a fingertip catches on are flattened, which cuts the squeak and slide noise a roundwound makes, without flattening the string into a true flatwound. You keep the roundwound's clarity and punch and lose the chirp between notes.
It matters most in front of a microphone, where finger noise is the hardest thing to edit out of a bass take. Live, it means a cleaner signal into a compressor. And the smoother surface is simply faster under the hand — players who move around the neck a lot notice it first.
Choosing a gauge
.045–.105 is the standard four-string set and where most players land. .040–.095 is lighter and easier to fret, .045–.100 sits between the two, and .050–.105 adds tension for a firmer feel. Five-string players have .045–.120, and six-string players .030–.120. All sets are standard long scale.

How Silencer Semi-Flat compares to our other bass sets
Silencer Semi-Flat is the quiet roundwound. Power Wound Nickel is the same gauges without the polishing, and is brighter and more textured under the fingers. Power Flat flatwounds go all the way to a smooth surface and a thumpy, vintage tone. Power Steel Stainless is the brightest option, and Fusion Wound Nickel the tightest and most focused. We also make a Silencer 80/20 set for resonator guitars and Silencer sets for electric and acoustic guitar.
