About Power Steel Stainless

Power Steel is the bright end of the S.I.T. electric range. A stainless steel wrap over a high-tempered hex core gives it more attack, more presence and a harder top end than nickel, which is what makes it cut through a loud band or a dense mix.

Choosing a gauge

In standard tuning, .010–.046 (PS1046 Light) is the versatile starting point. Players who bend a lot go to .009–.042 (PS942 Extra Light), and .008–.038 (PS838 Ultra Light) is lighter still. For a light top with a firmer bottom, .009–.046 (PS946 Rock N Roll) and .010–.052 (PS1052 Heavy Bottom) are built for that, and .010–.052 is also the one to reach for in drop D. Tuning down further, .011–.050 (PS1150 Medium Light) adds tension across the whole set.

How Power Steel compares to our other electric sets

Power Steel is the brightest and most aggressive of the range. Power Wound Nickel sits in the middle and is the usual starting point. Power Groove Pure Nickel is warmer and more vintage. CRT Coated Nickel trades nothing in tone for a longer usable life. Semi-Flat Silencers cut finger noise, and Power Flat flatwounds go furthest toward a smooth, mellow response.
