Royal Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

Royal Bronze is our premium phosphor bronze set. The wrap wire is Fusion Wound — bonded to the core rather than simply wound onto it — and that construction is what you hear. The set is fuller and more even than a standard phosphor bronze string, with more weight under the low end and less variation from one string to the next.

It runs the same gauges as our standard Phosphor Bronze line, so switching costs you nothing in setup or feel. Same tension, same action, same relief. What changes is the voice: more depth on the low end, more clarity on top, and a more even response across the set. The bonded construction also makes it the longer-lasting of the two.

Choosing a gauge

.012–.054 (RL1254 Light) is the standard starting point and matches P1254 exactly. For a lighter feel, .010–.048 (RL1048 Extra Light) and .011–.050 (RL1150 Pro Light) drop the tension. For heavy strumming and maximum projection, .013–.056 (RL1356 Medium) is the heaviest in the line and the gauge Aaron Lewis plays. Twelve-string players have .010–.046 (RL121046 Light).

Gauges

RL marks a Royal Bronze wound string. On the 12-string set the first line is the main course and the second is the paired course — unison on the top two strings, octaves on the bottom four.

How Royal Bronze compares to our other acoustic sets

Royal Bronze is the step up from Phosphor Bronze, in the same gauges — a fuller, more even version of the same voice, and a longer-lasting one. Golden Bronze 80/20 is brighter and crisper. CRT Coated Phosphor Bronze gets its string life from a coating instead, so it is the one to choose if corrosion is your problem rather than tone. American Roots Monel is drier and more vintage, and Semi-Flat Silencers 80/20 cut finger noise. Our Acoustic Signature Series is built on Royal Bronze.
