Bass Strings

Why are the E and B strings in Foundations sets a different length?

Quick Answer

In Foundations long scale sets, the E and B strings (.100, .105, .120 and .125) have about 37" of usable winding length, and the rest of the set about 37.25". Both fit standard 34" long scale basses.

This applies to Foundations Nickel and Foundations Stainless long scale sets and singles:

  • E and B strings (.100, .105, .120 and .125): about 37" usable winding length, ball end to taper
  • Every other string in the set: about 37.25"
  • Foundations extra long sets: about 38"

On a standard 34" bass with a top-load bridge, the difference doesn't change the fit. On a 35" bass or a string-through-body bass, measure your current E or B string from the ball end to the taper before ordering, or choose a Foundations extra long set.
