Pedal Steel & Specialty

Why won't my pedal steel strings return to pitch?

Quick Answer

This is usually caused by worn strings, incorrect gauges, friction points or improper installation. In many cases, a fresh set fixes the problem.

Pedal steel strings usually wear faster than standard guitar strings because of the constant pitch changes from pedals and knee levers. How often you change them depends on how much you play. When tuning becomes inconsistent or notes stop returning cleanly to pitch, it's usually time for a new set.

Setup can seem complicated at first, but most of it comes down to the right string selection, accurate tuning and making sure the guitar feels balanced and consistent.
