Electric Guitar Strings

What strings should I use for C Standard tuning?

Quick Answer

Many guitarists use .011 or .012 gauge strings in C Standard, and players who want a tighter feel often choose .012 sets.

C Standard lowers every string by two full steps, giving you C F Bb Eb G C.

You can use .010 gauge strings, but many players find they feel too loose two full steps down. Heavier gauges usually feel firmer and give more control.

Lower tunings and heavier strings can affect neck relief, action, nut fit and intonation. If you play in C Standard regularly, your guitar may benefit from small setup adjustments.

Many guitarists also use individual strings to build custom sets that give them the exact feel they want.
