Tips for a clean installation:
- Wraps: There's no exact number. Heavier strings usually need fewer wraps, and lighter strings may need a few more. Aim for a good break angle over the nut.
- Cutting: Cut roundwound strings only after measuring enough slack for the wraps. Too short makes installation hard or impossible. Do not cut flatwound strings.
- One at a time or all at once: Either works. One at a time keeps neck relief and the bridge position more consistent. All at once makes cleaning and inspecting easier.
- Reusing strings: Strings removed temporarily for maintenance can usually go back on, as long as they aren't corroded, worn or damaged.
The most common mistake is rushing. Careful wraps, firm witness points and settling the strings maximize tuning stability.
