Classical Strings

Why do my new classical guitar strings keep going out of tune?

Quick Answer

This is normal for new nylon strings. Nylon stretches after installation, so new strings commonly need repeated retuning before they stabilize.

Keep tuning back up to pitch as the strings settle. The settling period is part of how nylon strings behave.

If tuning problems continue long after the strings have settled, it may be time to look at the strings' age or condition. Consider changing them when you notice a meaningful change in tone, feel, intonation, visible wear or tuning performance.
