Pure nickel rolls off the hard edge you get from nickel-plated steel or stainless steel. That makes Power Groove a natural fit for blues, classic rock and anything vintage-leaning. The heavier gauges also suit the thicker, jazzier tones pure nickel does well.
Power Groove gauges:
- .009–.042 (PN942 Extra Light), the lightest and easiest to bend
- .009–.046 (PN946 Rock N Roll), a light top with more weight underneath
- .010–.046 (PN1046 Light), the balanced middle
- .010–.052 (PN1052 Heavy Bottom), more low end without a stiffer top
- .011–.050 (PN1150 Medium Light), for heavier players and lower tunings
- .012–.052 (PN1252 Medium), with a wound 3rd string
If you want a more modern, middle-of-the-road sound, Power Wound Nickel is the usual starting point. Power Steel Stainless is brighter and more aggressive.
