Because the wound strings have very little surface texture, flatwounds feel smooth and make much less noise when you slide your fingers. We describe our Flat Wound Electric strings as having a flat feel without finger noise. They're suited to jazz, R&B and styles where a flatwound sound and feel is needed.
In both of our sets, the 3rd string is wound (.022 in the 11–50 and .024 in the 12–52), and the 1st and 2nd strings are plain steel. Our Flat Wound Electric strings use a stainless steel wrap and are designed for conventional magnetic electric guitar pickups.
A flatwound set doesn't necessarily feel the same as a roundwound set of the same gauge, because gauge, pitch, scale length and construction all shape the feel together. We recommend confirming the feel by playing.
After switching, check relief, action and intonation. A setup adjustment may help if one of them has changed enough to cause a problem.
