Are mandolin strings loop end or ball end?

Quick Answer

Our mandolin sets use loop ends. Many traditional mandolin tailpieces are designed for loop-end strings, but check your tailpiece if you're buying for an unfamiliar mandolin.

A guitar string isn't automatically suitable for a mandolin. Gauge, length, end type, construction and intended pitch all matter.

Standard mandolins use loop-end strings in four doubled courses, so a dedicated mandolin set is the straightforward choice. If you're using a single from another application, verify its specifications rather than choosing by gauge alone.
