Should I replace one string or the whole set?

Quick Answer

In most cases, replace the whole set. Strings wear together, so one new string next to old ones often sounds and feels noticeably different.

The main exception is when a string breaks or gets damaged shortly after you put on a new set. Replacing just that string is fine then. Single strings are also useful for building a custom set.

If the rest of the strings are already old and worn, a full set gives you more consistent tone, feel, output and tuning stability.
