Are coated strings worth it?

Quick Answer

For many players, yes. Coated strings are designed to resist contamination and corrosion longer than comparable uncoated strings. Whether they're worth it depends on how quickly you wear out strings and how often you change them.

Modern coated strings often sound very similar to uncoated strings, though some players notice slightly smoother highs or a softer attack. Some coated strings feel smoother than traditional strings, but designs vary a lot.

Coated strings can still rust eventually. No string is completely immune to wear and contamination.

Many professionals use coated strings, and many others stick with traditional uncoated strings. Both are common at every level.
