New Orleans bassist, singer-songwriter, and composer Roland Guerin has spent his career blending the rich musical traditions of Louisiana with influences from jazz, folk, blues, rock, zydeco, and American roots music. As the driving force behind his project Grass Roots, Guerin creates a distinctive sound built around memorable melodies, layered rhythms, and thoughtful storytelling. His music draws comparisons to artists such as Steely Dan, John Mayer, Sting, and Peter Gabriel while maintaining a voice uniquely his own.
Raised in a musical family, Roland's passion for music developed early. His father was an avid fan of jazz and classical music, while his mother performed as a blues and zydeco bassist. Inspired by the music around him, Roland began playing bass at the age of 11 and quickly developed a love for songwriting and performance. Influences ranging from Lakeside, Dazz Band, Rush, The Brothers Johnson, Gerry Rafferty, America, and Booker T. & The M.G.'s helped shape his musical identity and inspired him to create original music of his own.
Over the years, Roland has established himself as one of New Orleans' most respected musicians, performing at renowned venues and festivals around the world, including the Blue Note Tokyo and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Throughout his career, he has performed and toured with legendary artists such as Alvin Batiste, John Scofield, Allen Toussaint, and Dr. John.
In addition to his extensive work as a sideman and collaborator, Roland continues to pursue his own artistic vision through Grass Roots, creating music that celebrates the diverse musical heritage of New Orleans while embracing contemporary influences. His album Grass Roots further showcases his talents as a songwriter, vocalist, bassist, and bandleader.
