Thomas "Adam" Johnson
Creative, gifted, talented, dedicated, and musical are just a few words to describe bass guitarist extraordinaire Adam Johnson. Currently the musical director for R &B artist Stephanie Mills, Adam was fashioned to create music. Born in 1981 in Baltimore, Maryland, Adam has been playing instruments since age 7. He started on the drums and then moved to the Hammond organ at age 11. By the age of 13, Adam began playing his father’s mustang fender bass.
Music is in Adam’s blood. His father was a major influence on his musical ability. Adam states that “My father always had a drum set, bass guitar, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, organ, piano or keyboard, and violin in the house. My father is a great musician and played music around me as a child.” The gift of music was the most important gift Adam’s father could pass on. It is through this gift that Adam can reach the world.
This gift has taken Adam to Europe with blues singer Shirley Sidnor, and Japan with the late Dr. Nathan Carter to perform at the Blue Note in Osaka. He has also made television appearances on Dateline, Good Morning America, Joles Holland and MTV with Vivian Green, PBS with Darin Atwater and Soulful Symphony, and BET Bobby Jones Gospel with Jonathan Nelson.
Adam is featured on numerous albums including the Gospel Music Workshop of America Youth and Men’s Choir, Rodney Bryant, Jeff Bradshaw, Jonathan Nelson and Purpose, and Jason Nelson. He has also accompanied artist such as Kim Burrell, Byron Cage, Glenn Lewis, and Kurt Carr, just to name a few.
Adam’s musical ability is unmatched. His offering to the musical world is endless. His career can be best summed up in his own words “Music is what I do. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
