The Curtis Brothers Band
The Curtis Brothers Band, based in Cleveland, OH is not just another local band. This group of professional musicians presents the adult audience with an array of diversified and contemporary styles and sounds of music. Although they are classified mainly as modern country, they present a diverse range of styles from bluegrass, Stevie Ray Vaughn, to full-scale pop arrangements.
The 5 members honed their craft of vocal and musicianship as individuals with a successful history became friends, and now are great friends playing great music together. With strong vocals as the base platform, and then by adding their flare with multiple instrument capabilities, the unique blend and vast musical styles they present throughout their shows contributes to making this group very unique.
Starting with John Ivan on drums and percussion, and then adding John “Rocky” Zimmerman on electric and acoustic bass, provides the solidity in the rhythm section. The other members include; Jay Wonkovich, Bobby Lee, and Jerry Brightman, and with this strong asset, brings an arsenal of instrument combinations to the musical table. Combinations of keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, banjo, pedal and slide steel, and harmonica, allows the band to create a great deal of musical variety. By this interchanging of instruments and five vocals, they are able to transition into a wide musical palate showcasing various styles. For example, when performing a traditional bluegrass song, the band may choose the instrument combination of vocals, up-right bass, acoustic guitars, and banjo or dobro. This presents the flavor of music in its truest traditional sense. At other selected times, the band may consist of three electric guitars, bass, and drums to present a more aggressive sound and style. The musical and vocal possibilities are endless.
The band released its first CD in 2003 and the band has returned to the studio in January 2007, to begin their second CD also consisting of original compositions written by the band. The Cleveland Freetimes Magazine selected them as “Band of the Year” in 2005. The band continues to open shows for national acts and is supplemented by appearances at the top area nightclub hotspots in Northeastern Ohio.
The Curtis Brothers Band is proud to have arranged a partnership with SIT Strings and feels that the strings play a major role in allowing them to do what they do best; pick-up another instrument on stage, and have it perform in tune, without time consuming delays of tuning between instruments and song changes.
