Originally hailing from Pella, Iowa, the band's evolving sound (a nearly mystical marriage between rock and classical) was informed by a curious duality. 
Cutler, who spent 15 years studying classical piano, explains, "When I was in high school I listened to a lot of metal/rock bands and classical music. Both genres are intricate, complex types of music that are very dramatic, and I'm naturally drawn to that." Ryan adds "Sonny and I share similar musical tastes; however, we write from opposite sides. He writes from a classical perspective and I write from a hard rock riff-driven viewpoint, which gives Syndrome of Fire an aggressive unique sound." Each member contributes their personal styles and ideas, which makes Syndrome of Fire a powerful, unique band with hard hitting rhythms and lyrics that speak straight to the core of your existence. 

The original members of Syndrome of Fire are Cassie Goetzke (vocals), Ryan McMahan (guitar), and Sonny Cutler (keys). Static, their first EP debut, was released July 25, 2010 and is still available for purchase. Gaining much attention in the Midwest, Syndrome of Fire worked with producer Larry Jones and released the single "Best of Me" in November 2010. In January of 2011, Syndrome of Fire signed their first record deal with Alien Patrol Records. March 1, 2011 the single "Fast Train" was released which marked the beginning of the new recording relationship between Alien Patrol and Syndrome of Fire. In October of 2011, Syndrome of Fire released their first major EP "I'm Alive" with Alien Patrol Records. 

Syndrome of Fire, now unsigned yet still touring, acknowledges the main force that ignited the band was God. "God's spirit speaks to all of our hearts in prayer and continuously reinforces His promises of reaching thousands of people who don't know of His love," Cutler explains. "We aren't a band that will preach down your throat. But we will make sure our entire audience knows that our Father in heaven loves each and every individual. If God can use our music to change one person's life, then we feel we know His plan is being carried throughout us."
